Spring has sprung! Spring is often associated with spring cleaning – opening your windows, starting fresh…out with the old, in with the new. Well, this edition of the education industry scoops is just that: Many people are spring cleaning their careers and companies are launching new fresh products and services.

The Chicagoland DOLS hosted a gathering on Thursday, April 26 where they honored the DOL of all Chicago Ed Tech DOLS, Anne Wujcik, as she has taken a step back from her daily industry involvement. Our own Kristina James also joined the festivities, and a great time was had by all. They also had a Chicagoland DOG join in the fun!
The Chicago DOLS group is comprised of women working in the education market who want to network with other women in the field. The Chicago DOLS are an offspring of the national DOLS women’s networking group that gathers at national, educational technology conferences.

PENCIL’s annual Principal for a Day (PFAD) initiative is headed to NYC public schools throughout the five boroughs on Tuesday, May 8! The program brings notable New York celebrities and top executives from over 100 NYC businesses into public schools to shadow principals throughout the day, speak with students, and experience the challenges facing the NYC school system firsthand.
This year, Abbe Raven, Chairman of A&E network, will return to her alma mater high school – the Humanities & Arts Magnet High School in Queens. Mark Levitt, CIO of Union Square Hospitality Group, will be a Principal for a Day at the Food & Finance High School, NYC’s only culinary high school, where he will meet with NYC’s future chefs & restauranteurs, and tour the school’s rooftop greenhouse and working test kitchen. SBA to recognize Women-owned, Brooklyn-based Educational Game Maker at Award Ceremony in Times Square
The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), New York District Office, has selected Killer Snails LLC, a Brooklyn-based Ed-Tech game maker, as a National Small Business Week Award Winner for 2018.
This women-owned small business is being recognized for leveraging two Research and Development (R&D) grants, worth nearly $1 million through SBA’s SBIR/STTR program to develop table top, digital, and virtual reality educational games. Founded by Mandë Holford, a marine biochemist, Jessica Ochoa-Hendrix, a business leader, and Lindsay Portnoy, an educational psychologist, Killer Snails collaborates with (among others) the American Museum of Natural History, and educators across seven states to develop, sharpen, and deliver its technology to classrooms. Skriware, a New Start-Up Entering the US Market Launched “Destination: Mars”
