The EdScoops for August 17

This time of year, I get a little sappy and take a great deal of pride in what I do for a living.  Most of August and the beginning of September many schools will be opening their doors to welcome back students for another another year. While most of us didn’t get the summer off to frolic and vacation, we are still preparing and ready to create a year of excellence in supporting the education industry. We here at MDR are looking forward to continued partnerships with many of you (like our friends who made the news below!) to ensure we offer the best products and services to educators, children and families, and I especially look forward to hearing big news and happenings from all of you.

Now, on to this round of scoops…

In Sadness

We were saddened to hear the news that a dear friend of MDR and longtime supporter of EdNET, Charles Blaschke, passed recently. Charles was an industry expert who we all learned and benefited from, and who’s knowledge of funding and policy kept our community informed.

“Charles was an icon of the education technology industry as he provided the industry with an invaluable and unique service, observing the inside workings of Washington, while analyzing the implications of federal and state-level legislation that affected the industry and the students and educators they served. Charles’ involvement in education policy circles in Washington, D.C. and beyond was prodigious. In recognition of his industry-wide work, the Software & Information Industry Association awarded Charles their prestigious Ed Tech Impact Award in 2012.”

A public Celebration of Life service will be held at the Wilsonia Harbor Way Boat Landing in Machipongo, Virginia on Saturday, September 29th from 11:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. Online condolences may be sent to  In lieu of flowers, donations in Memory of Charles Blaschke may be sent to:
