I think it’s just about official that all schools are back into session now, or within the next week.  As we head into the long Labor Day weekend ahead, please take this time to enjoy the last of the summer (pains me to say that) and prepare for all the school year excitement ahead.  The excitement has started for a few of our mentions below and I’m proud to say…MDR seems to have made this round of scoops!  Checkout a few of our highlights below…

New and Enhanced Education Data Products From MDR Provide Organizations With More Ways to Successfully Connect With Schools
New Data Innovations Make it Easier for Clients to Access and Use MDR’s Accurate, Reliable Data

MDR announced new data attributes and school district staff roles that continue MDR’s long-standing commitment to providing innovative and illuminating solutions for service providers, brands and causes seeking to reach, engage and activate educators at scale. Available now is a new MDR database of 140,000 District Influencers. MDR has enhanced its school district staff taxonomy to reflect the relationship between top level decision makers and the support staff that often have an influential role in advising and informing senior staff on key decisions. These additional contacts are across 19 different school district functions such as the superintendent’s office, finance and purchasing, curriculum and instruction, and technology, and each influencer role is categorized by five different authority levels, including directors and supervisors. Intelitek Recognized by The Edvocate as a Finalist in the 2018 Tech Edvocate Awards
Intelitek CoderZ equips students with fundamental STEM skills through an interactive online platform

Intelitek announced that its online coding program, CoderZ, was chosen as a finalist in the 2018 Tech Edvocate awards. Finalists were selected by a panel of educators and K-12 parents who reviewed the submissions that were entered and judged the products and services based on the extent to which they are transforming education through the development or advocacy of edtech. The judges also took the results of a popular vote into consideration for the finalist selection process. Read the full announcement >>


Scientific Learning Corp. Releases Second Quarter Results; Jeffrey D. Thomas Assumes CEO Role
Thomas was named co-CEO in February, former CEO Robert Bowen will continue as Chairman of the Board

Scientific Learning Corp., a SaaS service provider that delivers neuroscience-based educational technologies, announced that it has released its unaudited financial results for the second quarter of fiscal year 2018. Concurrently, the company announced that Jeffrey D. Thomas has assumed the role of CEO replacing Robert Bowen, who will continue to serve as Chairman of the Board of Directors. Thomas was named co-CEO in February after serving as the board’s Lead Independent Director. Before joining Scientific Learning, Thomas was involved with several private-equity backed education companies in CEO and executive chairman positions. He served for over 11 years as CEO of the Ambassadors Group Inc. and six years as president and CFO of Ambassador International, both publicly-traded, educational travel companies. As Follett continues its rapid expansion of Follett Book Fairs, the company announced the launch of a new online storefront for students and parents, plus the debut of gift cards. New NWEA/Gallup Survey Reveals Educators and Parents View Academic and Nonacademic Skills Assessment of Equal Importance

Views on Which Skills Should be Taught, Where, and by Whom Vary Widely; Teamwork, Critical Thinking, and Creativity Seen as Critical Skills, but Adequate Assessment Is Lagging

Parents, teachers, and school administrators are in agreement about the importance of measuring students’ soft skills like critical thinking, problem solving, and teamwork, according to a new report commissioned by NWEA, the leader in K-12 education assessment, and conducted by Gallup. Despite this recognition, assessment of these skills and communication about them between parents and teachers remains elusive. Views on which nonacademic skills schools should teach, the ways they are fostered, and whether schools, families, or communities should play the primary role in helping children develop these skills vary widely among those surveyed.  Read the full press release >>
