Fox Grove Business Owner Named to RAILS Board of Directors

Reaching Across Illinois Libraries System (RAILS) recently announced the election of new board members, including Michael Campbell, President of Fox River Grove-based Forward Thinking EDU. Campbell in 2012 founded the educational consultation firm, which works with small- to mid-sized firms in the education technology and services sector.


Turnitin Acquires Gradescope, Expands Grading and Assessment Solutions for Higher Education
Gradescope, now under the Turnitin umbrella, optimizes grading workflows for STEM, economics, and business courses

College enrollment and degrees awarded in STEM subjects are on the rise, and with more courses come more assignments that need to be graded. Turnitin has acquired Gradescope, an assessment platform that reduces the time associated with grading in college courses via an optimized online workflow and clever application of artificial intelligence. All Books for All Kids’ Campaign to Introduce Wide Range of Books to Children

Follett and Kwame Alexander, one of the country’s most acclaimed and innovative children’s book authors, today announced they have formed a partnership to launch All Books for All Kids, a literacy campaign to ensure children have access to a wide range of books no matter their background. PRESS EVENT: Student-Led Summit Addressing Gun Violence and Safe Schools

On October 20th-21st, students and educators from Parkland, FL, Great Mills, MD, Newtown, CT, Washington, DC, Santa Fe, TX, and across the country will convene alongside the American Federation of Teachers, the National Education Association, Guns Down, Students for Change, Everytown for Gun Safety, Students Demand Action, Giffords, and the Brady Campaign for a two-day, student-led summit to create a national agenda to address gun violence, ignite support across the country, encourage young people to vote, and show the world that young people have the power to make change. Over 100 national student leaders committed to reducing gun violence as well as educators will attend the conference and virtual participation will be available via a live stream for those who can’t attend in-person. Students and teachers are on the frontlines of this issue and they deserve to have their voices heard.

Number of States Reporting Lexile and Quantile Measures Doubles
Trend Reflects That Measures Can Be Used to Improve Instruction and Connect to Resources

More students and parents will receive Lexile and Quantile scores on high stakes test reports this school year than ever before. The number of states using Lexile® and Quantile® measures doubled in the past two years, according to MetaMetrics®, developer of the widely adopted Lexile Framework® for Reading and Quantile Framework® for Mathematics. Last school year, 15 states and the U.S. Virgin Islands used Lexile and Quantile measures to support student learning. And in the 2018-19 school year, that number is expected to double with more than half of the nation projected to report Lexile and Quantile measures from their state assessment systems.
