MDR and Lysol Selected as Winners in the 2019 PRNews Social Media Awards

We are proud to announce that MDR, together with our client Lysol, was selected as a winner in the Instagram – Best Marketing Campaign category of the 2019 PRNews Social Media Awards! Winners were announced last week at the Social Media Awards Breakfast at the Social Shake Up Show in Atlanta, GA.

The My Healthy Classroom Initiative

Lysol, the iconic brand known for its products that help prevent the spread of germs, wanted to increase educator loyalty and engagement with Lysol wipes, making them No. 1 on teachers’ school supply lists. Lysol partnered with MDR to develop the My Healthy Classroom initiative, providing teachers with resources, tips and ideas to keep classrooms healthy and clean. MDR leveraged WeAreTeachers, the #1 media brand for educators, to launch a custom, integrated marketing solution for Lysol.

Classroom Makeover Instagram Contest

A key component of the campaign was a Classroom Makeover Giveaway contest on Instagram. To participate in the Classroom Makeover contest, teachers across America were asked to submit an original photo or video on Instagram, with the hashtag #FlipMyClassroom and tag @WeAreTeachers, showcasing their classrooms and detailing why they were in need of a face-lift.

The grand prize was a complete classroom makeover, valued at $5,000, including updated lighting, new flooring, furniture, décor, seating, painting paint, walls and more. Five first place winners also received a $100 gift card.

When it came time to select the grand prize winner, the contest took a unique twist that demonstrates the unity of the U.S. teacher community. It was an entry from a first-year teacher at Florida’s Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School that won the support of her fellow teachers from around the country. The entry received an outpouring of support from the education community, with more 6,000 likes and hundreds of comments, including many from teachers who wanted to give up their entry in the contest to Brittany and her students.
